The Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility (CBWTF) of KEIL is set up as an integrated facility along with TSDF in 3.5 acres of land in 50 acres of land allotted to KEIL in Ambalamedu, Kochi. This facility is built as per the guidelines of Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016 and supported with financial assistance from the Govt. of Kerala and MOEF&CC. It has all the facilities for collection, transportation, treatment, and scientific disposal of biomedical waste from healthcare facilities of:

  • Modern Medicine, including Dental Care
  • Ayurveda/AYUSH centers
  • Veterinary Hospitals/Clinics
  • Diagnostic Laboratories
  • Domestic Biomedical waste

KEIL has received Environmental Clearance for its Bio-medical Waste Treatment Facility at Ambalamedu from State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), Thiruvananthapuram and Consent to operate from Kerala State Pollution Control Board. The equipment erection and construction activities were completed and the trial run of the plant was started on 24th May 2021.

The CBWTF of KEIL has a capacity to treat 16MT/day bio-medical waste generated from various health care institutions in Kerala state. Major equipments are: Rotory incinerator, 2 nos., 250 kg/hr capacity, Autoclaves- 2 nos., 250Lcapacity, Shredder, 1 no., 350 kg/hr. capacity. A 50KL/day capacity Effluent Treatment Plant also installed in the plant to treat the effluent generated.
